Are you an author who has a book that you would like to see published? If you are, you should know that you do have a number of different options. While the most common approach taken involves relying on a third party publishing house, you do also have the option of self-publishing your own book.

When an author makes the decision to self-publish a book, he or she has complete control over the whole process. In fact, that is just one of the many pros or plus sides to self-publishing, as many authors like having complete control over their works of art. As for the responsibility of an author in terms of self-publishing, an author must write the book, edit it, find a company to manufacturer the printed book, and sell it. Although the process does seem relatively easy to most, it is important to remember that there are a number of pros and cons to self-publishing.

As it was previously stated, a self-publisher is responsible for the sale of their book. For many this is a difficult process. When a third party publishing house is used, they take on most of the work associated with selling a book, such as marketing.

This is not how self-publishing works.

Many self-publishers set up websites where they list their books available for sale. Even then, however, that website must be marketed so that visitors will find it. Self-publishers also have the option of approach retailers, including bookstores, hoping to get their books available for sale locally.

Another con or downside to self-publishing is the cost.

Technically, you could say that even when using a third party publishing house, you still pay for the cost of getting your book published. This is because your publisher does take a fee out of the amount of money that you are paid; however, many authors don’t even take this cut into consideration. Even though it will cost money to have your book transformed into print, there are steps that you can take to reduce the cost. The most common approach involves having your book printed on demand, instead of having books on hand.

As previously stated, some self-publishers find it difficult to sell their books. Yes, this process can be difficult, but many other self-published authors have seen success.

When you put the proper amount of time, research, and energy into selling a self-published book, you stand the most chance of making the biggest profit. This is because, aside from the cost of your expenses, you are able to retain all of your profits. There is no one else that must share your profits, unless of course you decide to hire help.

Another pro or plus side to self-publishing is the fact that unknown authors are given the opportunity to shine. Some of the best selling books today are written by authors who already have an established history or name. In fact, unless you have an absolutely amazing book or a well-known name, there is a good chance that many publishing companies will not want to take a chance on you. This doesn’t mean that your book is a poorly written one or that it has a bad story line. It just means that the publishing market is a tough one.

One of the biggest signs that self-publishing may be right for you if you believe that you have a book that will sell, but you still receive multiple rejection letters from well-known publishing houses.

Self-publishing is also an ideal approach for authors who write books that will sell, but books that only have a limited targeted marketed. For example, if you are interested in writing a book on your city or town, your targeted market may be quite small and publishers may not want to take a chance with that.

Since there are a number of pros and cons to self-publishing, you should take the time to decide if self-publishing is right for you. Additional research can help you determine if self-publishing is truly your best option.

I’ve been making a fantastic living through online ventures for the past five years or so, and I’m completely convinced that with my help and guidance, others will be able to do the same thing. I’m sure that people would pay good money to learn my secrets, so that’s why I’m thinking about writing an ebook to sell on my websites. The only problem is, I’ve never done this sort of thing before, and don’t really know where to start.

From talking to other online entrepreneurs, there are several things that I need to take into consideration before writing an ebook. For example, it’s important that I guard my ebook from theft or illegal reproduction. I can do this by purchasing a protection program, issuing passwords to unlock the book only after payment is received, or by using Digital Rights Management. These steps will ensure that the ebook can’t be copied or traded very easily.

I also learned that there’s a definite formula to writing an ebook, and that once I get the basic feel for how to do it, the entire creation process will become a lot easier. Savvy marketers have discovered that there’s an ideal length for ebooks, that the margins should be a certain width, and that there should be plenty of white space on each page so the reader doesn’t get intimidated at the prospect of taking in too much information. There are even pricing guidelines out there to help me decide how much to sell my finished product for! I never could have figured these things out for myself, so I feel like I’m making good progress already.

At this point, I think it would probably be best for me to purchase some special software that will allow me to take a step-by-step approach to writing an ebook. I’ve seen several of these types of programs advertised online, and have even checked out some of their features. It seems that the prices are pretty good for what the software delivers, so I should probably place my order soon. After all, the sooner I finish my book, the sooner I can start making money from it!

I’m excited about the prospect of writing an ebook, but I definitely need more information before I can begin in earnest. I’m going to devote the next couple of days to research, and will hopefully be in a better position to evaluate where I stand after that.

Have you just finished writing a book that you would like to see published? If you have, you may want to start sending your book manuscript to publishers that fit your genre.

Doing so is okay, but before you accept any offers, it is important to know as much about the publishing process as possible. You do not want to end up being the writer that gets taken advantage of or paid less than they are worth because you didn’t take the time to do the research first.

One important point that you will want to take into consideration, when looking to get a book published, is that many publishers have specific wants and needs.

For example, one children’s book publisher may be seeking science-fiction books for young adult readers, while another children’s book publisher may be looking for nature-inspired picture books. Since is there a variance, even in a specific genre like children’s books, it is important to know what each publisher wants before sending your manuscript off, especially if your book is not what is needed at the current time. This allows you to not waste your time or money.

In keeping with what a book publisher wants, it is important to learn as much as you can about the publisher and their guidelines for writers. For example, if you are writing an adult book, see if full manuscripts are allowed or if sample chapters or query letters are advised. You will want to make sure that you follow all instructions given by a publisher because if you don’t, your chances of having your book published significantly decrease. The Writer’s Market books, others similar guides and the online websites of publishers can often tell you what is expected of you as a writer.

Before accepting an offer from a publisher, be sure to learn as much as you can about book publishing payments. This is important as not all publishers pay their authors the same amount of money. You won’t want to lose sight of the main goal, which is to make the most money possible. Many first time authors are so excited that a publisher wants to publisher their book that they will accept just about any offer, even one that is significantly less than it should be. Flat rate payments, advance payments, and royalty payments are common methods of payment for book publishers.

In keeping with payment, advance payments are nice, but be sure to closely examine them. You will want to look at the long-term payment. Some publishers make advance payments seem better than they truly are. With that said, some writers, especially unpublished writers, find advance payments, regardless of what they are to be enticing. As for royalty payments, get everything in writing and have a set schedule. What percentage of sales will you receive? When are your royalties counted; on a quarterly or annual basis? How soon can you expect payment after each schedule ends? These are all questions that you will want answers to before agreeing to sign a contract.

The above mentioned points are just a few of the many points that you will want to take into consideration before accepting an offer from a book publisher. Regardless of what genre your book is for or what publisher you receive an offer from, be sure to fully read and examine a contract before signing it. Also, be sure to ask any additional questions that you have. All reputable publishers should be more than happy to answer your questions.

Google has recently launched a new service Fast Flip. It is aimed at bridging the gap between Digitial and Print Media.

The problem with reading news online is that it can be a very slow process. A page with lots of images, video can take a lot of time to load. This is a frustrating experience for most users. We should be able to flip through news items just like we can browse through a magazine effortlessly.

This is where Fast Flip steps in. Google has added this new experiment which aims at providing users an effortless experience online. You can browse sequentially through bundles of recent headlines. Fast Flip also provides an aggregation and search feature among top newspapers and magazines. Fast Flip also keeps in mind your preferences for example: which journalists you prefer, topics you prefer, content you like more and keeps this in mind while delivering news in the future.

Now, this is smart browsing and really simplifies your online browsing experience.

"As the name suggests, flipping through content is very fast, so you can quickly look through a lot of pages until you find something interesting," Fast Flip developer Krishna Bharat, a Google engineer, said in a blog post on Monday.

Google has partnered with three dozen top publishers including the Washington Post, Salon, Fast Company, the New York Times, the Atlantic, ProPublica and Newsweek. All these partners will get a share of the contextually relevant ads. The advantage to the publishers is increased exposure, they tend to gain new readers, popularity and a very potent medium to put their articles across. More people will read the articles, which drills down to more ad revenue.

This is indeed a win – win for all. Flipping through the pages is very easy, has big arrows for easy navigation and loads so fast. There is an option to read the entire article, visit the article source online.

Fast Flip lets users browse articles by “most viewed”, “most recommended”, and “most popular”. I experienced some delays in this, even though I am using broadband.

The best part is that if you like something you can share it with friends and relatives using social networking. Google is considering adding a mobile version as well.

Some books which started out as Self-Published Books – Self publishing your book was taboo way back when. People questioned you when you self-published your book on real paper. This did not deter a few authors who self published their way to success.

Here are a few self published books, do you know them?

Remembrance of things Past, by Marcel Proust

Ulysses, by James Joyce

The Adventures of Peter Rabbit, by Beatrix Potter

A Time to Kill, by John Grisham

The Wealthy Barber, by David Chilton

The Bridges of Madison County

What Color is Your Parachute

In Search of Excellence by Tom Peters

The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield

The Elements of Style by William Strunk, Jr. (and his student E. B. White)

The Joy of Cooking

When I Am an Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple

Life’s Little Instruction Book

Robert’s Rules of Order

Fast forward to today ….

Today it is so much easier to self publish. You can do it yourself or use websites like Lulu.com, CreateSpace, or BookSmart. I once had a website where I charged per download.

You can also create paperback versions or better still order services through sites like cover art & illustration.

How about purchasing an ISBN number?

For a small fee you can purchase an IBSN number for your book and market it through Amazon, and also make it searchable in any library or bookstore database.

don’t wait for that publisher to reply, your manuscript might be in the trash after all you know… Just think about self publishing it instead. Now think of it, your book gets popular, people notice and BANG, publishers will be calling you.

How cool is that?

Even if your best friend owns a top publishing
company, giving you an immediate “in,” this does not
guarantee publishing success.

First, you have to write a quality book that has a
clear target audience. And your book must answer a
common problem or need that audience shares. Then you
have to develop a marketing plan, and stick to it for
at least two years.

Let’s begin with the process that should commence
before you write your first word. Begin by reading A
LOT. Read both books you passionately love and books
you can’t seem to make it past page five. Then figure
out what the author did in the book you loved, and
what was wrong with in the book you couldn’t finish.
Write down these points so they are crystal clear to
you. Read other people’s books for inspiration and to
discover what you should avoid as a writer.

The next step is to plan out your book. Narrow down
your subject, and then divide it into chapters. Each
chapter should address a specific aspect of the
problem your book is going to solve. In each chapter,
break the specific aspect down into several parts.
This will help your readers take in your information a
bit at a time instead of overwhelming them with every
bit of information clogging up the pages until they
feel like they’re about to go blind. It’s not quite
spoon-feeding the information to your readers, but
it’s close.

The next two steps are obvious. Write your book and
then revise it. And then revise it again. And perhaps
again. Of course, writing is extremely hard, and
writing a book can seem like an impossible task. There
are many books out there that give you guidelines to
help you become familiar – and even love – the process
of writing and revision. Find a number of books about
writing. Better yet, find a number of books about
writing the specific type of book you aspire to write.
These can serve as roadmaps on your writing journey.

Once you’ve written your ebook and revised it at least
twice, show it to someone else whose opinion you
respect. If you’re lucky enough to know a good editor,
see if you have something to barter for him or her to
go through your manuscript. Or join a writing group
and let the other members critique your work.

Then take all these ideas from other people, and
revise your manuscript one last time. And then stop!
Put down that pen! Get your hands off the keyboard!

One of the most important steps to actually producing
a book is to know when to stop writing and tinkering
with it.

You’ve finally written your ebook! Pop open the
bubbly! Give yourself a night out on the town!

Okay, now that this necessary celebration is out of
your system, what do you do next?

How to turn your ebook into Profits

Ebooks are a revolutionary way to publish your book
without incurring the costs of print production. All
you need is a relevant and targeted subject and some
inexpensive software, and you can transform your
manuscript into a book.

The problem, in terms of actually seeing any profits
from your ebook, is that the market is overwhelmed
with ebooks, and many of them are not worth the time
it takes to download them. Just because the ability
exists to easily produce an ebook, doesn’t make it
good writing.

Make sure your book does not simply rehash old
material. You will injure your credibility as an
author by claiming to offer valuable new insights and
disappointing your audience with material they’ve read
a zillion times before. So spend enough time writing
and revising your book to make sure it’s of the
highest quality and presents the most current
information. A good book will eventually sell itself;
false claims about your book will make it extremely
difficult to sell any future books you may write.

Assuming you have determined that you do indeed have a
quality product that answers some question or need of
your target audience with NEW information, how do you
know how much to charge for it? Rule number 1: Set a
price for your book equal to its value. An
under-priced book will only give the impression that
your book isn’t worth very much.

To figure out a fair price, estimate how much time you
put into creating it and how difficult it was to
transform the necessary information into
understandable and engaging writing. Figure out how
much your time and effort is worth, and then price it
accordingly. The goal is for you to be adequately
compensated for your talent, your time, and your
effort.

Once you’ve figured out a price that is high enough to
convey the value of the book, but not so high as to be
out of the reach of your target audience’s mean
budget, then it’s time to offer it for sale on your
website. To attract sales, you will need to develop a
promotional campaign, particularly if you are an
unknown author.

There are multitudes of books about self-promotion
that will guide you in your efforts. Choose a plan
that is both creative and professional. Learn how to
write a catchy yet informative press release, and send
copies of your ebook to sites that specialize in ebook
reviews.

Learn how to write powerful sales copy, or hire
someone to write it for you. This is an essential. You
absolutely need excellent sales copy to sell your
book. Make sure the copy includes all the reasons your
target audience needs your book, and the benefits they
will derive from buying it.

Use graphics in your promotional materials. Beautiful
graphics have the power to instantly convey the
quality and value of your ebook. Graphics can also
convey the amount of valuable information the book
contains, and your careful attention to detail.
Professional graphics sell professional books. They
reassure the customer that the product is what it
claims to be.

Consider excerpting chapters for articles. You can
offer these tidbits for free on your website as a sort
of demo of your book. Include an order form for your
ebook at the end of the excerpted articles.

Finally, when you set-up your download link, make sure
to simplify the process. It’s a good idea to offer a
few bonuses that make your book even more enticing to
purchase, but make sure the bonuses are valuable and
high quality. Too many bonuses that are basically a
load of useless stuff will compromise the impression
your audience has of your ebook. The goal is to convey
to your audience that they are getting a quality
product for a good deal. That means applying
restraint, especially when it comes to adding bonus
items. Too much free stuff offered diminishes your
credibility.

Make sure your book is a quality product. Make sure it
is relevant and current. Develop an effective
marketing plan that includes excellent sales copy and
excerpted articles. Then offer your book for sale, and
wait for your audience to discover you!

Getting published is no big deal. You can get published in two ways:

Find a publisher
OR
Self-publish

The hardest part is writing . What you write has to have substance and should be of interest to others. I started publishing through making small booklets from home. Initially I did it for our sunday school kids but later I started making ebooks and whole books on my areas of expertise. I find it a very fulfilling activity.

Normally I self publish using my computer with various design tools and ,of course,Microsft word. I like sites like:Lulu.com and cafepress.com that make it so easy to get your finished product out.

Yes, it does cost a bit but I don’t use their print services for myself, only if someone chooses to buy they have to pay for the printing too. I also use pdf 995 software to get the doc. into final shape.
I love the part where my writing is complete and I have to now convert it into a book.

I have learnt a few techniques to make the whole thing into a simple process. You do need to have interest in doing it otherwise it may seem tedious. I find the fineprint.com software handy for putting the book together in the right format for printing.

Currently I have prepared workbooks and manuals in a ready-to-print format. If I want to make it a book form ,I print them out and make it into a book on my kitchen table. All you need to make it into a book is some white cement which I apply on the book edge and some heavy books that i use to keep the papers in place till the cement hardens. I put together a book cover on the computer and get that on the book too and my book is complete! It is simple when you know how.
Finding a publisher to publish your work can be tough but not impossible. If you stick with it long enough and build a good network you will get published. But I like self publishing because it is totally dependent on ME! I am instantly gratified with the end result in my hand with my name as the author on it. You can do the same too.Try it! There is enough information on the web to help you in it. Success will find you half way,so get started.

Microsoft word is the best tool available if you want top do publishing your self I have used Microsoft word to publish numerous books and booklets. If you want to start publishing here is what you got to do:

First type up all the content of your book. Microsoft word lets you add images which you can copy and [paste into it as well as add simple designs borders and experiment with fonts. The fonts I would suggest you stick with are verdana, arial, times new roman, Garamond and Georgia..

Second read through your content and make changes and edit the grammar, spelling etc. Word helps by picking out in corrects sentences and spelling and marking them in red or green. This is the work that actually consumes most of your time. In fact if you could get this over with the rest is easy.

Third-Create a book cover the first page on the document can be made into a cover using the drawing and coloring tools in word. E.g. you can select a text and change the font color or add a square shape and fill color in it and write text in attractive font. Please go to Amazon .com and look at books in the same genre as yours and create a simple cover. Mind you,. word has its limits in this area as the tools that can be used are very limited. But until you can afford to hire a graphic designer this would suffice. Similarly create a back cover.

Fourth add the index and headers and footers. Complete the editing.
Now you have an edited formatted document of maybe 40-200 pages with a cover and back cover designed by you. Congratulations.
The nest step is to download pdf006 (from www.pdf995.com) and install the drivers and the PDF converter on your computer. Once you have done this. You can select the print option under file and select pdf995.You will be asked for a place to save the PDF doc .You can save it on the desktop or in a folder.

Your book is now ready you can go to lulu.com or café prss.com and upload your PDF or give this to a Print on demand company and they will print it for you. If you are using lulu or cafepress you do not have to make the cover they have an option which lets you create attractive covers online. Follow these steps and you can become published in no time .Get started now .Remember getting started is 80% of the work.
