Some books which started out as Self-Published Books – Self publishing your book was taboo way back when. People questioned you when you self-published your book on real paper. This did not deter a few authors who self published their way to success.
Here are a few self published books, do you know them?
- Remembrance of things Past, by Marcel Proust
- Ulysses, by James Joyce
- The Adventures of Peter Rabbit, by Beatrix Potter
- A Time to Kill, by John Grisham
- The Wealthy Barber, by David Chilton
- The Bridges of Madison County
- What Color is Your Parachute
- In Search of Excellence by Tom Peters
- The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield
- The Elements of Style by William Strunk, Jr. (and his student E. B. White)
- The Joy of Cooking
- When I Am an Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple
- Life’s Little Instruction Book
- Robert’s Rules of Order
Fast forward to today ….
Today it is so much easier to self publish. You can do it yourself or use websites like Lulu.com, CreateSpace, or BookSmart. I once had a website where I charged per download.
You can also create paperback versions or better still order services through sites like cover art & illustration.
How about purchasing an ISBN number?
For a small fee you can purchase an IBSN number for your book and market it through Amazon, and also make it searchable in any library or bookstore database.
don’t wait for that publisher to reply, your manuscript might be in the trash after all you know… Just think about self publishing it instead. Now think of it, your book gets popular, people notice and BANG, publishers will be calling you.
How cool is that?
